学院介绍  
       材料科学与工程学院是华侨大学成立最早的一个学院。在全体教职工的精心努力下,经过几年的学科整合和开拓进取,学院现已形成具有专业特色的、高层次和多层次办学条件的新局面。目前学院设有三个系:材料科学与工程系、应用化学系、高分子科学与工程系。现有教职工66人,其中专任教师45人,实验室管理人员15人,行政管理人员6人。在专任教师中,有教授20人,副教授18人,具有博士学位30人,硕士生导师29人,博士生导师10人;形成了一支实力雄厚、结构合理、教学科研经验丰富的师资队伍。
       目前,学院拥有一个福建省重点学科:材料学;一个国务院侨办重点学科:材料学;一个博士点:材料学;两个一级学科硕士学位授予权:材料科学与工程、化学;九个硕士点:材料学、材料物理与化学、材料加工、高分子化学与物理、无机化学、有机化学、物理化学、分析化学、应用化学;一个工程硕士领域:材料工程。设有三个本科专业:应用化学、无机材料科学与工程、高分子材料与工程。现有在校生752人,其中博士生12人,硕士生120人。
       学院自成立以来,坚持科研与教学并重,不断提高科研水平。近三年来,共承担包括国家863在内的国家和省部级等科研项目56项,总经费达800多万元;在Adv. Mater.、J. Am. Chem. Soc.、Adv. Fucnt. Mater.、J. Mater. Chem.、Cryst. Growth Des.、Langmuir等国内外学术刊物上发表论文300多篇,其中被SCI和EI收录98篇;申请国际发明专利2件,中国发明专利30件;获福建省科学技术进步二等奖1项、三等奖2项。功能材料教学团队被评为福建省优秀教学团队。
学院教职工始终保持艰苦创业、励精图治、奋力拼搏、锲而不舍的精神,各项工作都取得了可喜的成绩。2001年学院党总支被中共福建省委和华侨大学党委授予“先进基层党组织”称号,2002年学院工会被全国总工会授予“全国五一劳动奖状”先进单位称号,2003年学院工会获福建省“模范职工小家”称号。
       新形势下,面对新的机遇和挑战,学院将秉承“博学、笃行、求是、创新”的理念,以“教学立院、科研兴院、人才强院”为指导,以学科建设为依托,强化质量管理,进一步提高学院的教学、科研、管理和人才培养水平,促进学院工作的全面发展,为学校的腾飞和祖国的繁荣做出应有的贡献。
          

 Brief Introduction to College of Materials Science & Engineering

      College of Materials Science and Engineering is one of the first colleges established in Huaqiao University. Under elaborate endeavors made by our faculty, the College has been energetically developed and exhibits a new prospect with lively professional features and well-established conditions, and its disciplines have been rectified and developed to provide doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programs on materials science, chemistry and applied chemistry The College consists of three departments: Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry, and Department of Polymeric Science & Engineering. The faculty in the College, 45 in total, is made up of qualified teachers, including 20 professors and 18 associate professors. They have seasoned teaching and researching experiences. Among them, 30 own doctoral degrees, 29 have master supervisor’s qualification and 10 have doctor supervisor’s qualification. They are 15 technicians and 6 staffs in the College. 
    At present, the College hosts one State Department Emigration Office key discipline--Materials Science discipline; one Fujian provincial key discipline--Materials Science discipline; one Doctoral Program--Materials science; Two master’s degree programs on all disciplines in Materials Science & engineering and Chemistry; nine M.S Programs--Materials science, Materials Physics and Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Process Engineering, Polymeric Chemistry and Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Applied Chemistry; one Engineering Master’s Programs--Materials Engineering; three undergraduate programs--Materials Science & Engineering, Applied Chemistry, and Polymeric Science & Engineering. 620 undergraduate students and 132 graduate students including 12 doctoral degree candidates are currently enrolled in the College. 
Since its establishment, the College has paid equal attention to teaching and scientific researching, which makes its scientific research, focused on different kinds of novel materials, well-developed. In the past 3 years, the College has undertaken 56 research projects including “863” projects and other national and local projects with a total financial support of over 8 million RMB. More than 300 research papers have been published in Adv. Mater., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Fucnt. Mater., J. Mater. Chem., Cryst. Growth Des., Langmuir and other journals, 98 of which have been quoted as the sources of SCI and EI. In the past 3 years, we have achieved 2 international and 19 Chinese patents, and three scientific projects have been rewarded as Fujian Provincial Science & Technology Award. Several international and national academic conferences on polymeric materials and functional materials have been held by the College. In 2007, our teaching faculty of functional materials has been assessed as one of Fujian Provincial Excellent Teaching Groups.
    Facing the new opportunities and challenges, the College will act on the spirits of “learned, devoted, realistic, innovative” and under the guidance of “developing teaching, prospering scientific research, and introducing excellent professors” to improve our teaching, scientific researching and administrating abilities. Several strategies, including providing well-established conditions and strengthening quality administration, have been undergone to promote the overall development of our College, and thus to make a great contribution to the prance of our university and the prosperity of our country.
